Cricket brings a billion hearts together after 60 years!

Reactions:

A Billion Indians supported and prayed for Pakistan tonight,,,though the prayers went unheard,,,atleast Cricket brought us closer for a day atleast!

I am sure that every Indian watching the Pakistan v/s Australia match had his heart impounded each time the ball hit an australian's bat during the death overs. The way Pakistan played till the last ball was truly touching and inspiring, Hats off to Younus and his team for putting such a fighting effort for a match that hardly mattered to them as they had already made it to the semis. Infact, I almost fell on my feet when Asif bowled that edge of a seat ball and picked up white's wicket. Thats when the ray of rope started reeling in once again coz Australia was pretty much in the driver's seat till that moment. And then those two continuous maiden overs by Rana Naved! Pakistan didnt let Punter's wolves breathe for even a second till the last ball was bowled. A Great game but at the end of which, all I was left with is utter disappointment for the Indian Cricket team.
Though there arouse a special respect for the Pakistani team for putting up that effort just for the sake of winning! A respect that must have conquered a lot of INDIAN hearts tonight. Pakistan did us hope, though shattered, but this day shall remembered as the day that brought the people of the two countries closer.
Atleast A billion Indians as I said earlier had pinned their hopes on Pakistan, which in itself is an achievement!

Great Going Pakistan, All the best....You ar\e the only asian side left in the tournament...go win it!
And India....Welcome back home.....Lets Move on...............let us just enjoy the Champions' League! (starting from 8th of this month...thats next week!)
I am game for Royal Challengers Bangalore......whom are u supporting?
Go Reds Go.....

How can India make it to the semis?

Reactions:
Today is the big match, infact two big matches that decide the fate of The Indian Side at the Champions Trophy.

What exactly is the equation for India then?

If both Pakistan and India bat first, the equation is pretty simple as mentioned below:

  • If Pakistan beats Australia by 1 run, India will need to beat West Indies by 104 runs
  • If Pakistan beats Australia by 20 runs, India will need to beat West Indies by 85 runs
  • If Pakistan beats Australia by 50 runs, India will need to beat West Indies by 55 runs
  • If Pakistan beats Australia by100 runs, India will need to beat West Indies by 5 runs

If both Pakistan and India bat second.

In such a scenario, India's chase will depend upon the number of overs Pakistan takes to reach the target against Australia.

While it is impossible to tell in how many overs India will have to reach the target (because of various permutations and combinations), we can give you an approximate figure.

If Pakistan beats Australia with one over to spare, India will need to reach the target as follows:

  •  If West Indies scores 100, India will need to win in nearly 28 overs
  • If West Indies scores 150, India will need to win in nearly 30 overs
  • If West Indies scores 200, India will need to win in nearly 32 overs
  • If West Indies scores 250, India will need to win in nearly 33 overs
  • If West Indies scores 300, India will need to win in nearly 35 overs

If Pakistan beats Australia with five overs to spare, India will need to reach the target as follows:

  • If West Indies scores 100, India will need to win in nearly 32 overs
  • If West Indies scores 150, India will need to win in nearly 34 overs
  • If West Indies scores 200, India will need to win in nearly 36 overs
  • If West Indies scores 250, India will need to win in nearly 37 overs
  • If West Indies scores 300, India will need to win in nearly 38 overs

If Pakistan beats Australia with 10 overs to spare, India will need to reach the target as follows:

  • If West Indies scores 100, India will need to win in nearly 40 overs
  • If West Indies scores 150, India will need to win in nearly 41 overs
  • If West Indies scores 200, India will need to win in nearly 42 overs
  • If West Indies scores 250, India will need to win in nearly 42 overs
  • If West Indies scores 300, India will need to win in nearly 43 overs

This is also in India's favour that it will play against West Indies later in the day and will be aware of the equation all the time.

If Australia loses to Pakistan, there will be a lot of interest in India-West Indies encounter.

If, however, Australia beats Pakistan, Indian players can start packing their bags in the middle of their match against West Indies!

All The Best India and Pakistan!

Bikhri Bikhri si hai Zulfein Kyun? (What's Your Rashee?)

Reactions:
बिखरी बिखरी सी है जुल्फें क्यूँ ? (Why thy hair is so swithered?)
Singers - Sohail Sen , Dominc D'Cruz
My Rating - 9/10

Reflections
A very touching track from the movie- What's Your Rashee?.
Actually, the track is played when the Cancerian girl, Hansa, played by Priyanka Chopra reveals to Yogesh (Harman) about her past, the lover who betrayed her. The courage and honesty with which she reveals the shocking Truth about her virginity is the scene. This sincerity is the soul of the song. The song talks about Hope of a new day, a day when the withered flower shall bloom again!
A very soulful melody! Infact looks even better during the movie, when the frame actually freezes on Priyanka's character with her hair mildly wavering with the breeze and Harman glances at her in slow motion.

Lyrics (Translation)

Bikhari Bikhari Si Julfein Hain Kyun (Why are your hair withered and tithered?)

Khoyi Khoyi Si Aankhein Hain Kyun (Why are your eyes so lost?)
Ghum Ka Yeh Pal Gujar Jaayega (This moment of grief shall pass)
Phir Koyi Humsafar Aayega (some other soulmate shall come for you)
Bikhari Bikhari Si Julfein Hain Kyun (Why are your hair withered and tithered?)
Khoyi Khoyi Si Aankhein Hain Kyun (Why are your eyes so lost?)
Ghum Ka Yeh Pal Gujar Jaayega (This moment of grief shall pass)
Phir Koyi Humsafar Aayega (some other soulmate shall come for you)

Bite Pal Bhul Ja (Forget all those moments of the past)
Woh Pal Nahi Hain Kahi (they aren’t here anymore)
Laayenge Pal Naye, Ek Jindagi Phir Haseen (New moments shall bring with them a life that’s lovely)
Yeh Bhigi Palake Utha, Yeh Sochake Muskura (Plz lift these sulking eyelashes, Smile!)
Laayega Phir Samay Koyi Jamaana Aisa Yahaan (Time shall bring another world here)
Phir Chalegi Hawa Manchali (Once again shall a breeze blow here)
Phir Se Mehkegi Koyi Kali (And with this shall some flower spread its aroma)
Phir Koi Humsafar Aayega (Again shall come some soulmate)
Dil Koi Geet Phir Gaayegaa (And the Heart shall start singing again)

Raat Lambi Sahi (The Night maybe long)
Phir Bhi Yeh Ik Raat Hai (but it’s just the matter of a night)
Subah Ho Jaayegi, Sau Baaton Ki Baat Hai (Morning shall bloom, a word of a hundred words)
Phir Jaagegi Yeh Fija, Phir Dil Ka Ik Raasta (Then the air shall wake up, pave the walk for the Heart)
Le Jaayega Waheen Tujhe, Tere Hai Manjil Jahan (and it shall take you to your destination)
Sach To Yeh Hai Ki Hona Hai Yuun (When The truth is that it shall happen this way)
Toh In Aakhon Mein Aansu Hai Kyun (Why do these eyes have tears in them?)
Ghum Na Kar Tu Jo Murjha Gaye (don’t be sad because you are withered)
Phul Khil Jaayenge Phir Naye (The Flower shall bloom again)

South Africa has been cut and is bleeding while India is hanging on the razor's edge!

Reactions:
South Africa has once again proved that the team is jinxed!
As usual, it couldn't clear prelims of the ICC event taking place at its own home turf. Remember World Cup 2003? Yep! History has repeated itself, rather the South Africans have repeated History.
The Hosts lost to Lankans in their first game, though they managed to defeat the kiwis in the second game but couldn't really pull it off in their last game against England. Infact they fell short of 12 odd runs from putting up a compatible net runrate! Now, the hosts become the second team to exit from the 8-nation tournament, after the windies.

Coming to the Indian story, India hs once again placed itself in jeopardy! It lost its first game against Pakistan, while its second game was washed away by rain. India now has 1 point in its kitty, while Australia have 3. Pakistan has solidified its position already by winning 2 of 2 games!
Now if Pakistan beats Australia by atleast a 100 runs and India is able to supress Windies by a huge margin, only then the MEN IN BLUE can make it to the next level. Else, they will have to succumb to their knees and come back home, just the way they did in the World T20 this July.
Now, I really Pakistan the best of luck to defeat Australia by a record margin(200 runs,,,please,,,), so that India makes it to the next level.

Until then,,,My fingers shall remain crossed and hopes unaltered.
:-)

Don't say Alvida (Main aur Mrs.Khanna)

Reactions:
Don't say Alvida (Don't say Goodbye)
Movie Name : Main Aur Mrs Khanna
Cast : Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Govinda, Sohail Khan
Music Director : Sajid-Wajid
Director : Prem Soni
My rating - 9.3/10

A Fresh track from composer duo Sajid-Wajid. The duo are now linked with every movie that Salman does. however, with this track they have brought back an age-old soft Indian romantic ballet kinda songs! When you hear this song, you don't get to hear the usual computer synthesized beats of kick and snare but of Desi Membrane instruments (tabla, dhol), some simple wind and string instruments and beautifully prepared western chorus!

And whats the best thing about the song, The song clicks!

Gives a feeling of Love that most of the modern Hindi track lack!

There is a saying - SIMPLICITY has the greatest CAPACITY (Ok! I just made that up :-P ).

Well, this track is witness to that. Simple yet the most beautiful love ballet of this year so far!

And there is one more notable thing about the song. Its sung by Sonu Nigam. After a long time have we heard him sing any Bollywood song. He had recently declared that he doesn't sing any bollywood songs because the quality of songs have degraded and that composers themselves sing all their tracks! Seems like Sonuji has finally found a song that worth singing! And it is true. A very beautiful song, a must listen!

Is Jahaan Mein (TUM MILEY)

Reactions:
Is Jahaan Mein (In this World)
Singer - Mohit Chauhan
Music - Pritam
My Rating - 8.1/10

A young and peppy number by Mohit Chauhan. Pritam's music once again sounds too INSPIRED!!!! This time from tracks by John Mayer, with those trademark 'Ooooooh' chants.
But does it matter?
Not at all, the music is youthful and can be danced to joyfully. If you can't dance like me, you can just sing it while you are walking down an alley!
A must listen, and this track is to stay for a while, like the previous Pritam-Mohit tracks (Tumse Hi and Dooriyan)

Lyrics (translation)

Is Jahaan Mein (In this World)

Is jahaan mein tu meri khatir hai (You are here in this world for my sake)
lag raha hai ab kyun aise (why do I feel like this now?)
ek kami hai tere jeene mein (there is something missing in your life)
ye khayal aaya hai kaise (how has this come to my mind?)
tu jo chale chalun (When you shall walk, so shall I)
tu jo ruke rukun (When you will stop, so will I)
ye ho raha hai kyun (Why is this happening?)
ye silsila bata hua hai kaise (How has this chain of events occured)

Oooooh!

karle mera tu yakin (believe me)
ye sach hai har khushi meri hai tujhse (its true that all my joy, emanates from you)
tu nahi to pass mere kya hai (when you aren't here, then what do I have with me?)
door tu hona na mujhse (don't go away)
meri nazar mein tu reh guzar mein tu (you are trapped in my eyes, at every point in my journey are you present)
shaam o seher mein tu (You are in my Dawn and Dusk)
tujhe juda bhala karun to kaise (How can I ever separate you from me?)

ho sake to ye bata lag raha hai ab kyun aise (if possible then tell me why I am feeling this way)
jo bhi ab tak hai jiya bewajah sa tha wo jaise (I was living till now for no reason or rhyme)
ek dil nazarana meri tu ban jaana (Let my heart take a look at you, and you shall become mine)
door tu na jaana sun le meri ye ilteja (dont go away, please listen to my plea)

ab tu mujhse jud gaya hai jaise (now you are connected to me like...)
seene se dhadkan ho jaise (...the heart is linked to its heartbeats)
ek kami hai teri hi jeene mein (There)
ek kami hai tere jeene mein (there is something missing in your life)
ye khayal aaya hai kaise (how has this come to my mind?)
tu jo chale chalun (When you shall walk, so shall I)
tu jo ruke rukun (When you will stop, so will I)
ye ho raha hai kyun (Why is this happening?)
ye silsila bata hua hai kaise
(How has this chain of events occured)
Oooooh!

Celebrating Vijayadashami (Dusshera)

Reactions:
NamaskAra
Finally, after 2 days of exile from the world of words, I am back again typing on my keyboard, writing this little article.Did someone ask- Exile?
Well, kinda.
Its a part of the Navratri Vrata (Fast) when on the eighth day (DurgAshtami) all books belonging to a student are owed to Goddess Saraswati and placed as a collective Puja entity. Books signify the most important source of knowledge for a student (BrahmachAri), and owing it to the Devi herself is a way to pay tribute to Goddess of VidyA (Knowledge) and thus, seek her blessings. And on the tenth day, that is, on the Day of Vijayadashami, A ritual called VidyArambham is performed. An auspicious ceremony marked with Pooja of Hari, Ganapathy, Goddess Saraswati and the Kuladevata (Lord of the Clan).

(My Books placed before images and idols of Our Gods in the morning)

VidyArambham is derived from the words VidyA and Aarambham that mean the Commencement of Knowledge.
The mantra - Aum HarisrI Ganapathaye namahA avighnamastu - is written on a plate of rice.
This is an initiation into the world of alphabets.'Hari' refers to the Lord, 'sri,' to prosperity. At first, the mantra would be written on sand or in a tray of rice grains. Then, the guru would write the mantra on the child's tongue with gold. Writing on sand denotes practice. Writing on grains denotes the acquisition of knowledge, which leads to prosperity. Writing on the tongue with gold invokes the grace of Devi Saraswathi, the Goddess of Learning, by which one attains the wealth of true knowledge. Another interpretation of the prayer is "Let us bow our head to the master of Hariganam and Sriganam" - Vowels and Consonants -sounds which make up the spoken language. I got this interpretation from another blog - RAJADHARMAM by Mr. RAja VenkatEswaran.
Well, This year's VidyArambham was special, as I wrote the AksharamAla of Kannada LipI for the first time in my life on the rice plate. What an auspicious day to begin!
Once, performed, one opens the bundle of books placed for Pooja two days and starts reading atleast a word from one of them.

Well, this is just a part of today's celebration. The real THING is yet to come in the evening, which is perhaps one of the most awaited events in the calendar.
BURNING OF Ravana!
Yes, ofcourse, today is Vijaydashami or should I say Dussehra. One and the same!

Dussehra marks the victory of Good over Evil, God over Devil.

The mythical importance of this festival is quite interesting because it is believed that on this day Lord RAm eliminated ego-driven RAvana from the face of this earth. Another landmark is the slaying of Mahishasur by Goddess DurgA. Both these events highlight the victory of the Good over the one who has been dwelled and driven by Ego!
All the mythical anecdotes propose and conclude the same idea - Ego leads to destruction.
Be it RAvana, Mahishasur or any other evil character from any culture. The one who is smitten by his Ego falls prey to his own trap. One should always try to learn from these stories rather than dismissing them as pure superstition or mythical MYTHS! Yes, Athiests are bound to feel aright, but let them feel so, I don't care. I neither have any objections nor do I bother about their beliefs.

According to me, there is nothing wrong in extracting the moral of a good story. Afterall, all these PurAna are stories (True or not, I am no one to comment, but I believe them to be true)written by Some great thinkers. Lets just move out of it.
Now, the good news about Dussehra is that the countdown to Diwali has begun.
20 days from now, it will be Diwali- The Festival of Lights and Homecoming!

Even though India lost its first match against Pakistan at Champions Trophy, I have hopes pinned again (as always and will always be) on today's game against Australia. Win today or get eliminated once again!

I am sure and quite positive that BhArat will not disappoint today. Afterall, today is the day when Victory of the Good prevails. India must be the better side today and keep in mind the importance of Vijayadashami's message.

"Ego is the ultimate cause of Destruction. Victory prevails for the Good.
Let Us just burn down our Ego before our Ego burns us"
All The Best to India(for their match), and everybody else for their life

Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani (Trailer)

Reactions:

Always wondered, how Ranbir would look with Katrina. And finally Rajkumar Santoshi has listened to my prayers.
From The Promo itself one can makeout clearly the variations in Ranbir's characters- from a moustached tuxedo wearer to a baniyaan clad jalebi vala. And ofcourse, as always looks funny, THE JOKER of Bollywood, who makes you with his handsome face!!!!
Katrina looks gorgeous as always, and has perhaps tried to act and give some average expressions on her face in this one.
Lets just wait till November to find out!

India to take on Pakistan tonight!

Reactions:

The biggest match of the Champions Trophy is to be held tonight.

India V/s Pakistan

As always, we shall be witnessing a packed crowd, cheering and booing to each and every second of action on the pitch. And besides, this is India's opening match at the Championship.

Yuvraj, Gambhir, Irfan and Sehwag may not be in the team, but does that stop us from coveting for the top spot???

Hell No!

We have Sachin, Dravid, Dhoni, Raina, Yusuf, RP Singh, Bhajji and the youth brigade led by Kohli and Nayar. Huge hitters and wicket takers alike, this Indian team is not the strongest from the list yet not avoidable.

They might have lost the practice game against the Kiwis. But given the space and luck, India can surely come out as the Champions once again.

All the best India.

Bollywood Top 5 Movies of the week

Reactions:
My Top 5 Bollywood movies for this week
  1. Wanted (Stays on top for its mix masala-mast action, mast dialogues and mast story)

  2. What's Your Rashee (Is hafte tikega bas,,,,4 ghante ki movie)

  3. Yeh Mera India (Thoughtful)

  1. Daddy Cool (Copied yet interesting)

  2. Dil Boley Hadippa! (I will change it next week for sure)

Whats Your Rashee? [My Movie Review]

Reactions:

Lagaan, Swades, Jodha Akbar.
When I name these, the first thing that strikes your mind is Hindustan Zindabad!, followed by quality, engrossing and inspiring characters, well-knit screenplay, great acting, incredible background music and well ofcourse Ashutosh Gowarikar and his awards!

Well, this was what I expected while stepping into the audi!
First day, First show!
Coincidentally, this is the Harman Baweja-Priyanka starrer movie that I am watching - First Day First Show. The Last one being LOVE SORRY 2050,,,,oops,,,,Love Story 2050,,,back on a breezy Summer day in Kochi.
Coming back to the movie, the movie opens up pretty stylishly, with the track Whats Your Rashee playing, Priyanka doing the honours presenting herself in 12 diffrerent avatars,(all sultry, in an almost catwoman like skin-suit). Each Avatar introduces a Rashee (Sunsign).
Cancer (Kark) was the sexiest where Priyanka is lying on her back over a white disc and her hands holding a crab! She looks hot in that one. Harman has done well in the movie, infact everybody has acted well.
Once the intro credits are over, we begin with the story. Young and hot Mr.Harman...errr....Yogesh Kumar Patel is called from Chicago by his brother Jitu telling him that their father has met with a cardiac arrest....Our Hero arrives at the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus to find his Priya Pappa recieving him!!!
The poor boy is requested FORCEFULLY to marry a girl on the 20th of that month. Infact, they had even published his marriage invitation card,,,with a blank space left for filling the name of the girl. Actually, a JYOTSHI predicts that the moment he gets married to a girl, he shall inherit great fortune and within seconds after making this prediction, the family recieves a call from Harman's Grandpa , who wills to name all his belongings to his name after marriage!

So, Harman is called in to inherit this fortune by marrying someone before 20th.

Actually, his elder bro, Jitu is under scanner as he had lost a lot of money in the share market and nnow he has to pay 1.5 crore to the bank and another 4.5 to the local BHAI, who has given him a deadline on 20th.

Now, Yogesh is confused! He wanted to love marriage, but before he could even think about it, he is being forced to marry. On confused night, he goes to sleep while reading a random book - WHATS YOUR RASHEE. He comes to know about the twelve rashees and decides to explore these 12 types of girls. He decides to see girls, one girl of each rashee, and would marry the one who touches his heart.

And thus, begins his quest!

At first the theme seemed to be pretty neat and capturing, but as the 1st half drags on, most of you will crave for an interval. Yes, my dear friends, the interval occurs at the end of the 2nd hour!!! All credits to the songs! Every girl he meets sings a song!!!!!! Eek!!!!!! The movie has 14 soundtracks that are featured in their entirity.

He meets the first girl and when he meets the second, he finds her face resembling the first. And this list of resemblance goes on till the 12th girl! His Grandpa gives a very funny logic behind this phenomena. He says that its coz a man always tries to find the face of his SAPNO KI RAJKUMARI in every woman he sees! dumb shit!!!! Aisa sab k saath hota hai!!! Gimme a Break!!!! Mr.Ashutosh, maybe you forgot, this movie doesnt have Akshay Kumar. Such stupid logic clicks only in Akki's movies!

He meets 12 different girls, one girl a day, each girl of a different rashee. But we know, that all are Priyanka. Each girl has a different background, style and need! There is gaav ki chori feigning Angrezi, a sophisticated modern indian lover, a funky college girl, a woman who has been betrayed in love, A dancer who has way too much attitude, A multimillionaire businesswoman whose entire life is a contract (including marriage), A billionaire's daughter who fiegns immaturity to test the groom, A NAABALIG!!!, A girl afraid of her parents who wants to pursue her passion in modelling, A girl who believes she has reincarnated and has found her pichle janam ka saathi in the poor NRI-Gujju (Harman), A nymphomaniac astrologer who always preaches the need for kisses and LING!!!! and a humanitarian doctor,

Priyanka has given her best, but fails to vary her vocal chords, although she has given every woman a different attitude that was needed. She looks extremely hot as the businesswoman Ms.Parmar.

The movie has a good beginning, a draggy yet funny and bearable middle, while the second half begins rather boringly, catches some momentum, but the so called CLIMAX disappoints. Infact, the ending of the movie is so stupid and unpardonable that you really feel like kicking yourself for bearing the 3 hours 45 minutes of torture!

Unlike its predecessors, this one fails to inspire, even though there are scenes that question teen marriages and pre-marital sex. All those scenes are too shortlived. There is no motive in the story. Its just the funny dialogues that keep you in your seat and of course the money you spent at the box-office.

The performances are strong, but the story is too weak especially the ending! never expected this from ashuji who flamed over Sajidji at an award ceremony for mocking others publicly! and here Ashuji has mocked us all, who went to see this movie!

The music is pretty awful, except for the tracks Jao Na, Whats ur rashee, the track wid the punarjanam girl and the one sung by kailash kher when he meets Hansa (the betrayed lover).

Infact that is one of the few characters played by Priyanka, you will fall in love with.

Ofcourse, she is the most beautiful looking of the twelve!

You really pray that Harman ties the knot with her, but alas! its not her. Boo hoo!

And yea, a day before wedding, he in confused as to whom he has to marry!!!! He approaches the girls he met, but in turn gets rejected! Now, his Devo Bhai uncle, asks him to marry the girl he sends at the wedding, and to trust him in doing that.

Ow yes! There is this character too,,,forgot to mention,,,but there are a few funny characters too,,,but who cares,,,I forgot them,,,,,u know,,,,such a long story,,,how can I remember each and everything. Infact after the interval, I almost forgot the first 3 girls!!!

Now while I am writing this review, I had to take a look at the poster of the movie to recollect the 12 avatars of Priyanka ji!!!

So, whom does he marry?

well we get to see a beautiful Gujarati marriage ceremony (thank God! they broke the monotony in hindi films where the Dulha always comes on his Ghodi!)

Anyway, I would love to break the suspence too,,coz I dont want you guyzz to undergo the same 4 hour treatment that I did.
Its Sanjana! the second girl, and by the way, did I hear someone ask - "Whats her Rashee?"
Who cares, you hardly remember your own Rashee at the end of this movie

My Rating - 2 out of 5

My Verdict - Wont work for the masses, too long, a bugging ending. Would end as a flop, unlike Lovestory2050 that ended up as a disaster! Watch it only if u r a diehard Priyanka fan or are sweeped by Harman's cute charms or if u have too much time to kill!

First it was movie reviews and now cricket snippets.
NO guys , I have not run out of my mind. Its just that I extended the spectrum of Reflections beyond just music. Reflections is just what is bouncing off my mind and heart regarding stuffs that I love, viz. Music, Movies, Books, Cultures and Cricket!

So there are nore to come, just beware, what you will be going through!

ICC Champions Trophy 2009

Finally, its the eve of the Champions Trophy. One of the most coveted tournaments in the game of Cricket. The event kickstarts from tomorrow, that is, the 22nd of September, 2009.
The Eight nation tournament is sure to decide the fate of 50-over Cricket.
The Tournament favourites India start confidently after their series victory in Srilanka in the Compaq trinations cup, while the Host nation-South Africa, start as the world no.1. In the twists and turns are Aussie team, who have literally rose from the ASHES like the phoenix and strangled ENgland to 6-1 defeat in the recent one day series in England. Sri Lanka are no less determined with the M-POWER (Murali, Mendis, Mahela, Malinga and Mathews) and DIL-SCOOP, they can get any team down on the knees and make them suck over the pitch. Pakistan arent far behind either, they are in high spirits after the T20 victory last July.
Although the remaining three are almost lacklustre.
England though regained the Ashes, but were beaten to the blues in the follow-up ODI series. And besides Ashes was TEST CRICKET!
New Zealand have always been the MODERATES!!! Never been outplayed and never have outplayed! Not much expectations from Oceania Country, but still we always expect them to tick till the semis, before losing out quietly to either India or South Africa. Although they have crushed INDIA by a mammoth 100 something runs in the warmup game, but something like this happened in t20 world cup too, where India crushed Kiwis in the Warmups, but gradually India coludn't pickup a decent victory in the main game. Wotsay Kiwis???
And finally the Windies, well what can I say. I don't know anyone in the team! Bangladesh were the better prospects! but alas they couldn't make it because of the some good Karma of Windies in the past (reason why they are still placed on top of Bangladesh in the ICC ODI rankings).
Well these were the teams.
All The Best to all the teams, All the Best to INDIA.
Chak De India!,,,,all you other Rascalas,,,MIND IT!

Rules and Groups
The ICC Champions Trophy 2009 will be contested by 8 teams which have been 'seeded' and divided into two groups:

Each team will play every other team in its group. Points will be allocated for each match in accordance with the system described below which will apply throughout the competition.

Following the group stage the top 2 teams from each group will progress to the semi finals where the winner of Group A will play the runner up of Group B (in the 1st semi-final) and the winner of Group B will play the runner up of Group A (in the 2nd semi-final).

The winners of the semi-finals will contest the Final.

Group A Group B
Australia (1) South Africa (2)
India (4) New Zealand (3)
Pakistan (5) Sri Lanka (6)
West Indies (8) England (7)

Points

The following point system will apply:

Win 2
Tie or no result 1
Loss 0

Group Matches

In the event of teams finishing on equal points in its group, the right to play in the semi-finals will be decided in the following order of priority:

The team with the more wins in the group stage will be placed in the higher position.
If there are teams with equal points and equal wins in the group stage then in such case the team with the higher net run rate in the group stage will be placed in the higher position (refer to below for the calculation of net run rate).
If following the net run rate calculation above there are teams which are still equal, then the team with the higher number of wickets taken per balls bowled in the group stage in which results were achieved will be placed in the higher position.
If still equal, the team which was the winner of the head to head match played between them will be placed in the higher position.
In the highly unlikely event that teams cannot be separated by the above this will be done by drawing lots.

Semi Final

If a semi-final is tied, the teams shall compete in a one over per side eliminator to determine which team progresses to the final. Refer Appendix 7 click here to read.

If following a tie, weather conditions prevent the one over eliminator from being completed, or if the match is a no result, then the group winners shall progress to the Final.

Final

In the event of a tied Final, the teams shall compete in a one over eliminator to determine which team is the winner. Refer Appendix 7 click here to read.

In the event of a no result, provided weather conditions permit, the teams shall compete in a one over per side eliminator to determine which team is the winner. If weather conditions do not permit, the teams will be declared joint winners.

Net Run Rate

A team‟s net run rate is calculated by deducting from the average runs per over scored by that team throughout the competition, the average runs per over scored against that team throughout the competition.

In the event of a team being all out in less than its full quota of overs, the calculation of its net run rate shall be based on the full quota of overs to which it would have been entitled and not on the number of overs in which the team was dismissed.

Only those matches where results are achieved will count for the purpose of net run rate calculations. Where a match is abandoned, but a result is achieved under Duckworth/Lewis, for net run rate purposes Team 1 will be accredited with Team 2‟s Par Score on abandonment off the same number of overs faced by Team 2. Where a match is concluded but with Duckworth/Lewis having been applied at an earlier point in the match, Team 1 will be accredited with 1 run less than the final Target Score for Team 2 off the total number of overs allocated to Team 2 to reach the target.

In circumstances where a match (and the points for such match) is awarded to a team as a result of the other team‟s refusal to play, either by the match referee in accordance with Law 21.3 (a)(ii) as read with playing condition 21.3 or in accordance with the provisions of the relevant event agreements signed by the participating teams, the net run rate of the defaulting team shall be affected in that the full 50 overs of the defaulting team‟s innings in such forfeited match shall be taken into account in calculating the average runs per over of the defaulting team over the course of the relevant portion of the competition. For the avoidance of doubt the runs scored and overs bowled in such forfeited match will not be taken into account when calculating the net run rate of the team to whom the match was awarded.

Dil Boley Hadippa (Movie Review)

Reactions:

Dil Boley Hadippa
Starring - Shahid Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee, Anupam Kher, Dilip Tahil, Sangeeta Bijlaani, Raakhi Sawant, Vrijesh Mishra
Directed by - Anurag Singh

Another Yash raj movie propelled by Punjab Power!
Unlike its predecessors, this movie has an overdose of Punjab and literally lacks a balanced script.

The Story is about a hyper energetic PUNJABI PIND DI KUDI- Veera, who wants promote CO-ED in International Cricket!!!(lol) Yes,,they try hard to put WOMAN EMPOWERMENT as a USP for the movie, but hardly saw the heroine (coz she ws a short and cute SARDAR in most part of the movie!). There is an unofficial tournament called AMAN CUP (BCCI,,,,beware!,,,,it may be another ICL,,,ROFL) where you can see everyone wavering the INDIAN flag but chanting the name of PUNJAB (mostly).

Okay Jokes apart, let me tell you things that are good about this movie.

Well,,,,Shahid is GREAT,,,he has matured as an actor and looks even more sexy. Rani is cute as the Sardar, but looks like an AUNTY as the female protagonist. Acting was average. Then there are some foot tappin BHANGRA numbers that , even though repititive, don't bore you at all. Infact, My feet were dancing to the beats!!!! hadippa!

Besides these, there was nothing new or good about the movie!

The Camera work is crappy, The dialogues lack the punch of CHAK DE and RABNE, while the Sarso da Khet backdrop really looks so familiar that we really want to get out of it for a change.(Yash uncle,,,Yash Uncle,,,please take us back to Switzerland and Kashmir/Simla ki Vaadiya). The Shots seem to be taken by a child. And the Lagaan Ishtyle climax is an insult to the art of making Sports based films. 40 odd runs for 9 wickets in 10 overs...and 165 to win in the last 10!!!! boo hoo,,,,,and our hero - heroine jodi does it miraculaously,,,,,what the fu(

Where has realism gone from the Yashraj camp? first Tashan, bachna e haseeno, thoda pyar thoda magic, rab ne,,and now this???? and yea,,,she gets a man of the match award too and suddenly the movie comes back to its FEMALE EMPOWERMENT Scheme, suddenly. And yea, I forgot, there's a love story too, between the boy and the Hero,,,err..the heroine ,,who is also the hero in disguise. And yea there is also a divorced father who wants his son and wife to realize the importance of Hindustan and ploys them to settle back in HINDUSTAN.

And yeah! Shahid bhaiyya catches Rani's fraudpanti when her lens' comes off on his palms,,,,during a post-catch celebration!!!! And by looking into her deep eyes,,,he gets enraged......and fumes in the MALE dressing room,,,which is perhaps the best expression he has given till date.

All in all, the movie can be skipped even if you are Shahid fan. Rani k fans, she's ok too.

My Verdict - For a regular movie goer, this movie is neither INSPIRATIONAL nor MINDLESS.

So! Avoid it.

My Rating - 1.5 out 5

Akheer (Juggy D)

Reactions:
Akheer (The last or The end)
My Rating - 9/10

This is one of those Punjabi songs that I like to play on my jukebox again and again.
With a South Indian tune and Poetic and Meaningful Punjabi lyrics, the track if understood can touch the deepest depths of your heart and soul.

A song that speaks the ultimate truth of Life, that at the end of everything,,,when one feels cornered,,,all he should do (and does) is remember and take His(Lord's) name, because He is the Ultimate Truth.

Jadon sir to chath hi lit jaaye
(When the roof comes off your head)
Badhal bijli sit jaye
(Clouds and lightning come down)
Likihya na hi mit jaaye
(Everything that is written gets erased)
Dharthi chadh jaye tha
(Even the world leaves your side)
Phir Iko kaam tu kare pyariya
(Then do only one thing my love)
Le le usda naam
(Remember God's name)

Jado duniya rabh hi ban jaaye
(When your world becomes one with God)
Panni aag hi ban jaaye
(When your eyes fill with tears)
Ko sawab hi ban jaaye
(When everyone becomes a stranger)
Na abu ranee na ma
(Neither your father or mother are there)
Phir Iko kaam tu kare pyariya
(Then do only one thing my love)
Le le usda naam
(Remember God's name)

Jado buliya ma naya vey
(Until you say your mom's name she wont come)
Haath joyriya mai nai ma nai vey
(Until you pray your hands to God,
he wont listen)
Sidhamkar sham hi nai aave
Bulan na banere kat ka
Phir Iko kaam tu kare pyariya
(Then do only one thing my love)
Le le usda naam
(Remember God's name)

Jado lokhan le tu maran turay
(When you are ready to die for other people)
Sabhan banaye karan turay
(Like a soap you are washing other's sins)
Has Has suni chan turay
(People sit and laugh at you)
Sah rahe na jaayan
(They don't understand you)
Phir Iko kaam tu kare pyariya
(Then do only one thing my love)
Le le usda naam
(Remember God's name...)

Change Your Mind
(music and lyrics by Alejandro Manzano)

There you are with your perfect way
You’ve got that little shine in your eyes
To hear one word would make my day
But there’s no room for me in your life

Oh you’ve got me down on my knees
Oh and in my mind I can see
How perfect everything could be
But you won’t give us a try

If I could change your mind
How would you want me
Would you say you need me
Cause I need you now

I try to move on but your perfect way
Has got this little child asking why
But this world keeps spinning
As my heart stops beating
Is there still no room inside

Oh you’ve got me down on my knees
Oh and in my mind I can see
How perfect everything could be
But you won’t give us a try

If I could change your mind
How would you want me
Would you say you need me
Cause I need you now

If I could change your mind
(Please tell me I’m not the only one)
(Please help me believe I’m not the only one)
If I could change your mind

If I could change your mind
How would you want me
Would you say you need me
Cause I need you now
If I could change your mind
How would you hold me
Would you stay forever
Or just leave me here to drown

If I could change your mind
(Change your mind)
If I could change your mind
(Change your mïnd)

Picha Vacha Naal Mudhal (PUTHIYA MUKHAM - OST)

Reactions:
Picha Vacha Naal Mudhal - Malayalam
(Since the Time I took My first Step)

Movie: Puthiya Mukham (The New Face)
Music: Deepak Dev
Singer: Shankar Mahadevan
My Rating - 9.5/10

This Melodious love balled from the Prithviraj starrer blockbuster PUTHIYA MUKHAM (The New Face) is the biggest hit of this summer in Kerala. The Music composed by Deepak Dev and voice provided by none other than the Remarkable SHANKAR MAHADEVAN, leaves no path that doesnt touch the heart of the listener. Even the Video has been captured and compiled smoothly and aesthetically. The Song has the Protagonist , a Brahmin man, romancing the woman of his life, in a typical malayalee background.

Saving Abel

My Rating - 9.5/10

"18 Days"

Its been 18 days
Since I'd look at myself
I don't wanna have to change
If I don't then no one will
Is it my state of mind
Or is it just everything else
I don't wanna have to be here
I don't understand it now

Cause its been 18 days
Since I first held you
But to me it feels just like
It feels like a lifetime
I'm trying hard to re-arrange
Some say its the hardest thing to do
But that's another 18 days
Without you..

Time after time
I've been through this
You show me what it means to live
You give me hope when I was hopeless
As my days fade to night
I remember that state of mind
I'm soaring straight into your heart
And I'll fly high

Cause it's been 18 days
Since I first held you
But to me it feels just like
It feels like a lifetime
I'm trying hard to re-arrange
Some say it's the hardest thing to do
But that's just too many days
Without you

And I know what they say
About all good things
Will they come to an end
But I'll fight this time
So that we might
Have a chance at this

Cause it's been 18 days
Since I'd look at myself
I don't wanna have to change
If I don't then no one will

Cause its been too many days
Since I first held you
But to me it feels just like
It feel like a lifetime
I'm trying hard to re-arrange
Some say it's the hardest thing to do
But that's just too many days without you

And I know what they say
About all good things
Will they come to an end
But I'll fight this time
So that we might
Have a chance at this..
