So waht? I was surprised when I first saw the promo! Of course, everybody would, who has seen John in glam roles is bound to be surprised. At first, I was like...Who's this geeky guy wearing huge specs??? And then! My eyes popped out...Oh My God! that's John....the Persian Malayalee is way out of his HOT BOD shoes and fits perfectly as the LOVEABLE CUTE GEEK...who well...of course...stammers....

Previously titled as 1-800-love....It seems like the director of Jaane tu ya jaane na...Abbas Tyrewala likes to make Hollywoodish stories with totally unknown casts. Hope it works....again....the promo was good...and I expect it to be better than the previous flick - Jaane Tu...(which by the way..I believe is the most overrated film to be made in India....)
THE OTHER BIG NEWS is that...AR RAHMAN's copmposed the music for the film! Whoo...hola!
And Ya...it also has MTV Roadies GUNDA man....Raghu Ram playing a friend to John's shy character.

The regular followers of my blog must be quite aware by now that I'm obsessed with Mohit Chauhan...err..I mean..his songs! :P
But there is a reason to this. Whenever I hear Mohit's songs...I am reminded of this great Blues Rock/Pop/Country musician from the West----John Mayer....
I loved his previous album Continuum, but kinda felt that he won't be able to come up with anything better now. He's proved me wrong....released last year (2009).....his album-BATTLESTUDIES' third single HALF OF MY HEART has won my heart....the full heart...
This song creates a great mood....and the lyrics simply leave you in thoughts....it's best to listen to this while driving alone on a country road during daytime.....or a city highway at night (But mind it...that u drive carefully....)

"Half of My Heart" features more of a pop rock sound than Mayer's previous music. His previous albums explored blues and acoustic rock, especially in his 2006 album Continuum. It also has a carefree, sing-along sound to it.

The lyrics of the song are sung by both Mayer and Swift; Swift sings with Mayer in the chorus and in the song's bridge. The lyrics are about the duo, with half of their hearts saying they should continue to love each other, although the other half says they are not each other's true love, and cannot keep loving each other.

Mayer "tweeted" about wanting to record the song with Swift in March 2009: "Waking up to this song idea that won't leave my head. 3 days straight now. That means it's good enough to finish," he wrote. "It's called 'Half of My Heart' and I want to sing it with Taylor Swift. She would make a killer Stevie Nicks in contrast to my Tom Petty of a song."
In an interview shown on television called John Mayer: On the Record with Fuse (which only aired on the Fuse channel), Mayer's interviewer asked why the singer chose Swift to duet with, since she was only nineteen years old, and Mayer was 32. He responded by saying that he was not putting her on the album just to sell more copies for die-hard fans of Taylor Swift that might just get the album for that song.

Lyrics are also quite nicely penned....the song's more like highway song and might suit a transitional journey during the movie....

REFLECTIONS
I must confess...this post was the most difficult one that I have created for this blog! First I had to go through each word at least 10 times before I could write it down...which is a mammoth task especially when you don't feel like pausing when it's playing! Such is the song's effect on you....
And then..the translation!!! OMG!!! What is this song!!! Meaningless!....There are words from PUNJABI...BANGLA...HINDI....TAMIL...SANSKRIT...and AFRICAN dialects...!!!!!
This song has literaly has no meaning in hindi at least....but who should care about the meaning...when you have such catchy and crazy lyrics and an AWESOME...(read AMAZING and WILD!) tune.....the drums....the voice of Javed Ali and the African hummings n chants during the transition!
OOOOOOOOO! oh ho ko....ko go go! lol! it's amazing....With an Afro-Carnatic tune...it's one amazing song!

REFLECTIONS
Not the best from the lot. It's yet another loony loner's anthem containing Sufi phrases quelled by a haunting female voice...The only two good reasons to listen to this song are-

1. Mohit Chauhan's amazing voice
2. The tabla backdrop during the transition sounds like Rahman's classy KEHNA HI KYA...

The lyrics are pretty good too.
Overall...it might go well with the citizens of youngistan...especially when the movie boasts of young hearthrob RANBIR KAPOOR and the suicidal (read PATHETIC actress) PRIYANKA CHOPRA.

AR Rahman is back again after a miraculous score in Raavan and Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya with something more amusing to the ears and mind....as you end up asking yourself- what the hell! Is he getting better or is his head hitting the moon??? Coz this music is out of this world. Amazing! Full on Energy! Praises Rajni's robo avatar...and the lyrics are quite amazing as it showcases the might of the Robot as well as it's craving for desires of love and lust. It's THE SONG of ROBOT! The Anthem! 

And ARIMA is the Dravidian (Tamil) word for LION! Something that depicts Courage.

Don't miss it!!!!

Especially the Chorus part...which is the best -

Ahem...This is the hindi version of the song KAADHAL ANUKAL (Love Microbes) from the Mega Rajni movie- ENDHIRAN (ROBOT in Hindi). As you can already see...I am high...and no m not on drugs (lol..except for d painkillers I am taking for my injured limb :P )...it's the intoxicating nature of this song...that's given me this high!
Listen to it....I even loved the video...Rajni looking out of his shoes! The 60 something demi-God looks a mere 30 in this one.....love the locales of the song....

Besides...it's Mohit Chauhan!!!! Ooooo....teaming up with Rahman after his last one from Delhi-6 ....MASAKALI...lol which won him various accolades at Bollynights! Although...Vijay Prakash has done magically better than Mohit in the original Tamil version of the song...but nevertheless....Mohit rocks too...and Shreya as usual is amazing!

Shri VishnusahasranAmam literally translates into THE THOUSAND NAMES OF LORD VISHNU, where Sahasra means Thousand and NAmam means names.

These are believed to be the narrated by BhIshma Pitamaha on his deathbed during the battle of MahAbhArata. As I run through wikipedia...I found some more vital info...

According to the 149th chapter of Anushāsanaparva in the epic Mahabharata, the names were handed down to Yudhisthira by the famous warrior Bhishma who was on his death bed at the battle of Kurukshetra. Yudhisthira asks Bhishma the following questions:

kimEkam dhaivatam lokE?

Who is the Ultimate Lord of the world?

kim vaapyEkam parAyaNam?

Who is the one refuge of all?

stuvantam kam prApnuyuh mAnavah subham?

By glorifying whom, can man attain peace and prosperity?

kam archanat prApnuyuh mAnavaah subham?

Worshipping whom can man reach auspiciousness?

kO dharmah sarva dharmANaam bhavatah paramO matah?

What is, in thy opinion, the greatest Dharma?

kim japam mucyatE jantur janma samsAra bandhanAth?

By doing Japa of what, can creature go beyond the bonds and SamsArA (cycle of birth and death)?

And BhIshma answers by reciting the thousand and eight names of the Lord. By meditating on these names while hearing (Shruti) or chanting them (Smriti) or offering (ArchanA).

Now, at Vedic Reflections, I try my best to provide you with the English transliteration & translation along with the purport of the shloka (verse). The accuracy is completely dependent on my interpretation of the Sholka as well as a few other sites and manuscripts that I have gne through.

Many of you might be thinking, how can a mere recital of a name lead to salvation??? I found the answer at www.trsiyengar.com- 

"Indeed, such a long recital of nAmAs glorifying the Lord and His splendor is rare in the world.  Yet a rational person is apt to question how mere words and their repetition can create such great power.. Just imagine for a moment that you are in an assembly, and the lecturer begins his talk with the word “boat”.  You can at one grasp the image of a boat, and there is calmness of mind.  Suddenly then, if someone in the assembly, utters the word “snake”, will your calmness continue?  It therefore follows that vak (utterance) and artha (meaning) together infuse a subtle energy either positively or negatively.  The thousand naamas are storehouses of proven spiritual content that can easily uplift our minds.  Indeed the expression NaMa is made up of Na for Naramandala and Ma for manas, our Mind.  NaMa, the chanting of which helps to unite our nervous system and Mind. The main body of Sri Vishnu Sahasranama consists of 107 stanzas which contain the one thousand names of Sri Maha Vishnu.  Every one of the one thousand names is full of significance and refers to one particular guna (quality, characteristic, or attribute) of Paramatma.  These names invoke a sense of bonding with the Lord.  The meanings of the names give us an understanding and depth of God as there is a deep connection between the name and the named."
