Jhootha Hi Sahi - Movie Review
There are somethings that really bother me... and one of those things is when unworthy things get all the undeserving praise while deserving one's go unnoticed....or even worse..are spit upon...
Such is this movie....Jhootha Hi Sahi
This is the second movie by Director Abbas Tyrewala, who's last tryst with Bollywood was Imran Khan - GENELIA (brainless) starrer Jaane Tu ya jaane na...which was quite undeserving..yet a huge blockbuster...among the Indian youth...However the second movie has failed to register any good impression in the minds of the same youth.
The movie is a light romantic comedy, and picks up slowly with John attending an Indian Suicide hotline...coz of a little mistake on the side of the NGO or whatever run by Nandana Sen. That's how he has an encounter on phone with Mishka played brilliantly by Pakhi!
John and Mishka become phone friends...although she still doesn't know anything about the identity of the person she is talking to...soon...John's character SIDDHARTH supported by Raghu Ram who portrays the sarcastic Pakistani Best Friend in UK....meets her at his book shop.....
John maintains two different identities..one as the phone friend and the other as the stammering cutie....
John as the phone friend tries to pull Mishka towards Siddharth....and unknowingly She falls for him....and by the way John already had a girlfriend who ends up with his best friend...Raghu...which by the way are part of the lighter moments of the film....
Mishka who had a terrible previous relationship is ready to move on..that's when the ex lover turns up....Kabir...played by Madhavan...an arrogant..self centered character who makes you Madhavan the actor himself.....
While she is left to choose one of them....Siddharth's story is thrown into the open....and there is the great HEARTBREAK!
But in the end....She is left with her heart to decide her destiny...and well we all know it's gonna end in a happy note....that's what Romantic Comedies are all about.
Now...coming to the technical area....The Cinematography has been...marvellous....Abbas really knows how to convey that nighty mood with the camera and London has never been shown so beautifully before...not even Vipul Shah could produce such a magic in namastey London. While it's just like he took off from Jaane Tu's leftovers...but feels fresh!
The Story is little long, but luckily it has enough light hearted humour that is thrown in at regular intervals to keep you on the seat...although the humour is really hard for the Common Indian to digest, because of it's simplicity.
The music is more like the 80's hollywood....nightyish! some of the scores like CRY CRY, HELLO HELLO & CALL ME BABY really are amazing....but given the kind of music that Indians listen to....I feel sorry!
Coming to the acting department.....
Raghu......I didnt like him in roadies...coz he was always this arrogant shouting guy.....BUT in this movie...he has done well..yaar he can act! and some of his dialogues...especially those on ISI (since he is a pakistani in d movie) are funny....and the way pronounces John's ex gf's name...really he's great!
John fluctuates as the good guy....while the supporting caste hasn't over acted in any frame.....but it's PAKHI who surprised me with so much skill....
Seriously....Raghu...& Pakhi stand out as the top performers....John is so so...acting is pathetic to ok...but his cuteness quotient has never been higher! Pakhi deserves attention......I mean....some one like Genelia got so much praise from the audience...for literally shouting like a pathetic catwoman in jaane Tu....and here....an unknown and a much better looking woman pulling every dialogue with the most perfect expression on her face.....is gonna go unnoticed..that's sad!
MY VERDICT - 3.5 out of 5
This movie, unlike what people say...is a good one. Watch it to lighten your heart...watch it for PAKHI.

Music Director - Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Sau Gram Zindagi
Reflections
Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali....well yes we know him...he has given many a classics in Bollywood Cinema....and we know his craving for beautiful music in his movies. But I never expected that craze to get so much into his head...that he would he'd go one step ahead and give music himself! Yup Guzarish has Sanjay Sir scoring music himself and this one is a very beautiful track. Very Indianish....has elements of Classical music embossed beautifully on a western note... The song's name is quite funny...but has a very deep meaning. Kunal Ganjawala fits beautifully in the song as he installs soul into the words penned by Vibhu Puri.
My best from the album!

Raktacharitra 1 - Movie Review
Ram Gopal Varma or the so called- RAMU sir had lost his AAG after his AAG went into PANI...and after years of TAPASYA...he is finally back with a film that is able to keep the veiwer at the edge of his seat and towards the end, crave him to come back for the sequel!
For a change, the film is set in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh and is based on the true story of Paritala Ravi & his tryst with NTR!
Vivek Oberoi portrays the role of Pratap Ravi who's based on Paritala Ravi and carries the movie on his shoulder after the first half. While the first half is swayed away by a brilliant performance by Abhimanyu Singh who plays Bukka Reddy, son of slain Political snake Nagamani Reddy played by South supervillain KOTA SRINIVASA RAO.
The Films sets off with the brutal massacre of Pratap's father at the order of Narasimha Reddy, and thus an angry elder son played by Sushant Singh sets out to chop off each member of the Rao Dynasty. Though soon, He chopped off during the intense and frequent bloodbaths and Pratap vows to take revenge from Narasimha, Nagamani & Bukka...one by one...infusing fear in each of them before dying.
The Story has nothing new to offer except for the fact that this one is directly lifted from a real life story and not from some South Indian or Hollywood Political Blood Drama!
Pratap finds support from a retired Superstar turned Politician, Shivaji Rao (real life inspiration is NT Rama RAO) played by yesteryears star Shatrughan Sinha. Pratap leaves Bloodshed and joins politics to drive lawlessness away from his Andhra constituency and becomes a System in himself..something we have seen in Sarkar films.
The movie has a VETALIC narrator who at times punches your ears inside out and that gives a very earthy effect to the narration.
The background music has been perfectly timed and is very similar to the ones that we have heard in Sarkar & Rann...the sanskrit shlokas delivered in an airy manner.
The Cinematography has been mind blowing, some of the scenes seem to be lifted from Sarkar...but others are perfectly moulded into the plot. although I felt that the editing could have been better, for at some points, the film's punches have been lost while editing.
Performance and dialogues are what keeps this movie apart from rest of the political dramas that have been churned out in Bollywood along with the intense Bloodshed. Vivek Oberoi and Abhimanyu Singh stand out with intense performance while KOTA SRINIVASA RAO keeps his Telugu accent intact to give Prakash Raj a run for his money. There are a few characters who have been kept hidden in this movie, like Sudeep & the minister of the opposition party and finally SURIYA and PRIYAMANI...who will be the base for the next installment of this MAHABHARAT which is to release in 3 weeks!
MY VERDICT - 4 out 5!
Watch this movie, unlike critics who call it as a movie for stronghearts...I think it's a slap on the makers of Rajneeti! This is called a Political Drama!

Aakrosh - Movie Review
A movie about honour killings that have swept the sands of Northern India is what is seemingly the USP of this action packed CBI melodrama. Having watched this movie in an almost empty SRS Cinema hall in Gurgaon, I felt more like at home.
Priyadarsan takes a different route this time and decides to put up a Action Investigation film on the lines of Malayalam Sethurama Iyer CBI movies, although, the plot is more fresh and not really a remake of any particular malayalam film, like he used to do previously.
The film has been set in a village JHANJHAR in North India, where three young men have vanished and apparently suspected to be killed by their classmates in some medical college in New Delhi. Thus, sets Akshaye Khanna, a very dutiful, thanda & gassy CBI officer en route to Jhaanjhar to track the wrong doers. Funnily, Jhaanjhar is a real village in Haryana, but the villagers speak in Bhojpurish Hindi which is nothing like the aggressive tone that's used in Haryanvi Hindi and the fact of the matter is that the entire film has been shot in Tamil Nadu! So, the idea never really merges, for one can easily see the temple style is totally Chola (Tamil Style) and looks nothing like the one's in Northern India. Any way, one can get over it as soon as the movie starts rolling.
Story is simple, no big suspense here! Ajay Devgun is a dalit who grows up to be a valiant officer (Captain) and is assisting the ever patient yet overly impatient while speaking Akshaye Khanna. They try tracking down the Shool Sena who have taken the theka of doing the honour killings in the name of JAAT PAAT blah blah blah!
The villain...er...villains are led amazingly by Paresh Rawal. Jaideep Ahlawat plays one of the bad guys (whom I had met at the Mdu Youth Fest, last year). Rest of the story is fresh for the hindi audience, but we witness such stories everyday in the Tamil & Malayalam forays! Nothing new! Oh Yea! There are some girls too who have absolutely no importance in the movie, but just to make it multi starrer there is an Oomphless Bipasha Basu, Pitiable Amita Pathak and NON-LOW CASTE looking parlourised village girls including Reema Sen (Reema who??? =P)
I am really tired to write a synopsis on the story, but in a nutshell, it really doesn't revolve around honour killings, but rather on a simple murder investigation.
The music is average, the only good song that I anticipated was chopped off from the movie, while the rest were really reworked versions of Pritam's earlier songs like Kaise batau k tujhko chaahu etc.
The Cinematography was one reason, why one can sit through the film, it gives you a feel of Action...raw action throughout the movie, although I really felt that the lighting could have been better at parts where they had to show scenes at night. Action, well, it's the sole driving factor of the movie! Ajay Devgun has most of the action sequences to himself and steals away all the thunder with very realistic OVER THE TOP stunts and all of it were executed perfectly! The third notable thing about the movie is it's dialogues! Bhojpuri tone adds up some humor which is excellently executed by Paresh's timing and brilliant acting.
Performance-wise Paresh stands out! EXCELLENT acting...he can do any role! Ajay is ok, but at times he seems like reading out from a book while Akshaye does better than Ajay, though he still shouts as if he's having gas trouble! Jaideep Ahlawat has done well too and so has the character who has played the SARKARI GAWAH! Amazing performance! As for the girls, they were not really necessary...blah! Bipasha aunty looks pathetic in the song sequence and has no real role while Reema Sen does the honour of killing the bad guys! (OOPS I just oozed out the climax..did I? =P)
All in all, this movie is really worth watching once. it's better than Anjaani Anjaani and Crook, but yea! If you have not got much time to waste, then forget all movies, book a shoe of Enthiran/Robot ASAP!
Priyadarsan can do much much better than this....Have seen his first movie till this one....they have only deteriorated! Please do something! Aakrosh is better than the previous one's but don't think it would survive the week for the movie which is virtually based on Haryana had empty seats in theatres of Haryana!
MY VERDICT - Watchable mainly because of Tirru's cinematography and the punchy dialogues and performances by the male actors
My RATING - 6.7/10

An amazing Carnatic song, given a western touch by Mani Sharma / Amit Heri and rendered by the very talented Bombay Jayashree.
A song that is both powerful in it's original raga as well as modern musical marvel. It's a song written in Sanskrit praising the great Lord Ganapathi

Mere Bina (Lyrics, English Translation)
मेरे बिना (Mere Bina)CROOK OST
Music - Pritam
Singer - Nikhil D'Souza
Lyrics - Kumaar
MY RATING - 9/10
Reflections
A very romantic western number by new comer Nikhil D'Souza. Pritam has crooned Pop hits by Darius and Enrqiue alike to create a magical ballad that hooks you to its smoothness the moment the song starts. Nikhil sounds like Atif at times, but nevertheless is a promsing find!
Lyrics (English Translation)
Mere Bina
Rehne laga hun
Teri hawaon me
Behne laga hun
I have started living without you...
I have started floating in the breeze that you are
jaane main kaise
tera hua hu
mujhe to lagta hai main shayad tere dil ki dua hu
Haan
Tujhko jo paaya ahan
To jeena aaya
Ab ye lamha theher jaye tham jaye bas jaye hum Dono ke darmiyaaaaan
I don't know how I have become yours
I think I am the boon from your heart
Yea!
Now that I found you...I have learnt to live
Now this moment may stop here at this very moment when the two of us are together
Tujhko jo paaya ahan
To jeena aaya
Ab ye lamha theher jaye tham jaye bas jaye hum Dono ke darmiyaaaaan
Now that I found you...I have learnt to live
Now this moment may stop here at this very moment when the two of us are together
Pehle se zyada
Main jee raha hu
Jabse main tere dil se juda hu
Rahon pe teri main to chala hu
Tu meri manzil hai tere kadmon pe bas rukne laga hu
More than before, I have started living
Since our hearts were connected...have been following your path...
You are my destination...will stop at your foot....
Tujhko jo paaya ahan
To jeena aaya
Ab ye lamha theher jaye tham jaye bas jaye hum Dono ke darmiyaaaaan
Now that I found you...I have learnt to live
Now this moment may stop here at this very moment when the two of us are together
Tujhko jo paaya ahan
To jeena aaya
Ab ye lamha theher jaye tham jaye bas jaye hum Dono ke darmiyaaaaan
Now that I found you...I have learnt to live
Now this moment may stop here at this very moment when the two of us are together
Teri nazar me nayi si adaa hai
Naya sa nasha bhhi ghula hai
Kayi dino se bandha tha baadal jo
Tere hi baalon me khula hai
There is a new grace in your eyes...
There's a new intoxication...
The cloud that had been tied for so many days has been let loose with your hair...
Teri hadon me meri basar hai
Ab tujhe bhi
Janu kidhar hai
Jahan rahe tu main wo jahan hu
Jise jiye tu main wo sama hun
Teri waja se naya naya hu
Pehle kaha na maine ab ye tumse kehne laga Hun..aaaa
I live in your limits
The mind is where you live...
Due to you I feel fresh and new...
I never said this before..but am going to say now...

My Name is Iyer - First Look
Finally we start the shooting of my first short film- MY NAME IS IYER. Don't go with the title, coz it's not a spoof on My name is Khan nor is it a comedy of any sorts. Although our shooting was full of comedy and errors.
After semi-successfully ending shoot at day 1 (also got interrogated by the Delhi Metro Policemen for suspicious behavior =P), I finally give you all, the first look into the Film.

Only Men in Metro's Special Coach for Women
It's funny what you get to see while you are in Indian city of Delhi. Actually you can see such things throughout North India, what kind of things am I talking about??? Well...simple...Breaking laws! =P
It's almost like an important rule in life up here...to break laws...be it spitting on the roads or peeing anywhere you feel like or speeding at 100kmph on the wrong side of the road and raping the traffic laws! It's like the birthright of every person in the Delhi/Haryana region to break laws!
It's disgusting, and it's shame that its happening in the capital of India and the IT city- Gurgaon!
People grow up, learn something from Cochin and Bengaluru!

This is a good track....by Rahman Sir!
HELLO HELLO (English Translation)
Hello hello, hello hello
Iss andheri kaali raat mein koi
Sune to sunaye haal-e-dil pe haal-e-zindagi
Hello hello, hello hello
Koi jawab do na
Jeenay ko khwaab do na
Ik dost ka chehra
Ya phir naqaab do na
Hello hello, hello hello
Hello Hello....in this dark night...
if someone's eager I would narrate the story of my life..
Hello Hello...someone reply!!! Give me a reason to live....
get me a friend or a mask to hide my face..
Hello Hello!
Telephone ki iss dor se, bandhi meri zindagi
Koi khol do bas todh do, main choot jaaun abhi
Mujhe chodh do, mujhe thaam lo
Kho jaane do, mera naam lo
Sab theek hai, ho jaaye ga
Iss jhoot se ab kaam lo
Hello hello, hello hello
My life has been tied up by the these telephone wires...
Free me..somebody....
Leave me...hold me....
let me losemyself....call my name...
Everything's ok...it will be...
Let me satisfy myself with this lie....
Hello Hello
Iss andheri kaali raat mein koi
Sune to sunaye haal-e-dil pe haal-e-zindagi
Hello hello
Hello Hello....in this dark night...
if someone's eager I would narrate the story of my life..
Hello Hello
Kaante ghadi ke chubh rahe, aur dil hai yeh andhera
Iss se bachein to phir dikhe, shaayad naya sawera
Mujhse zara baatein karo
Halke zara raatein karo
Suraj ki pehli kirno se
Meri zindagi ko bharo
Hello hello, hello hello
Clock's hands pricking my heart...heart's in darkness
Save myself from this darkness..or I might not see another dawn
Talk to me....make these nights easier on me...
fill my life with the first rays of the sun...
Hello hello
Koi jawab do na
Jeenay ko khwaab do na
Ik dost ka chehra
Ya phir naqaab do na
Hello hello, hello hello
Hello Hello....in this dark night...
if someone's eager I would narrate the story of my life..
Hello Hello...someone reply!!! Give me a reason to live....
get me a friend or a mask to hide my face..

Endhiran - The Robot (MOVIE REVIEW)
I have been expecting a lot from this movie and it's obvious from the way I was trying to promote this movie on my blog. It's not just me, It's the entire Southern Part of India, that's been eagerly waiting for the release of this epic. What makes it more special is that, it's going to be my first Rajni padam (film). Although, I saw Baasha at the time of it's release, but then I was a little kid and didn't understand anything. Now, decades later, Rajni Sir is back with Shankar's Endhiran.Endhiran starts off with cute as well as dirty humor which can make the young and old chuckle indifferently. The Robot 'CHITTI' is shown as an innocent learner in the first few scenes and his innocence perfectly gels with Santhanam & Karunas apt one liners. There's special cameo by Malayalam actors late Cochin Hanifa & Kalabhavan Mani and an entire scene with the mosquitoes of Chennai (:P)....and mind it! It's really funny.
Rajni as Dr.Vasigharan creates CHITTI (The Robot Rajni) that can do anything, say any language and in short creates a version of RAJNIKANT himself on screen (:P)....he wants the robot to be approved by the Army people, so that it can be put to good use. But unlikely, his GURU Dr.Bohra (Danny) rejects the model, saying it could be used for destructive purposes by wrong people, although he is himself eying the Robot's Neural scheme so that he could impart it to his unsuccessful robots and inject life into them. Danny had a deal with some Russian Rogue to make Destructive Robots but his robots are simBly dumb! Upon rejection, Rajni decides to give the one quality that distinguishes human from humanoid--- FEELINGS!
But that's when things turn around, CHITTI starts developing FEELINGS, and soon he in love with Aishwarya...OOPS...There is Aishwarya Rai in this movie as Sana, who plays Rajni's girlfriend.
Now, Chitti is a problem for Dr.Vasi and one day he destroys his own creation. The robot resurrects itself and danny helps him get back in shape, but inserts a RED CHIP inside him, that makes destructive minded and all of sudden, The VILLAIN is also RAJNI!!!!!!
It's Rajni vs Rajni.....and supported by a hundred more RAJNIs...yup! That's how the movie ends up....
The climax has hundreds of Rajni Robots ensembled together as a single unit...the firing ball....the serpent.....and then the giant robot!!!! And by God! those were the best action sequences ever seen in an Indian movie ever!!!!!!!!
In the end, Good wins over Evil and everything's alright!
Now, my critical views on the different aspects of the movie---
- Performance - RAJNI sir was AWESOME...THALAIVAAAAA!....Aishwarya was gorgeous..she plays a college student...and she's gives Katrina a run for all her money....Danny isnt really the antagonist...he has a small but important role and he does it very well.....Santhanam & Karunas pull of the funny bone perfectly with Rajni Sir.
- Music ----- Hahaha! AR Rahman...the name is enough.......The music is simply mind blowing!
- Cinematography --- Brilliant....usually it's just the songs...but here, the entire movie has been shot brilliantly...
- Special Effects --- THE BEST PART OF THE MOVIE...except for the baby birth scene...everything else was perfect.....the best ever in an Asia! The climax fight sequence was brilliant...and so is the initial fight scene with the local Goondas.....
- Action---- AMAZING!..no match...MATCHE ILLA!
- Story --- Funny first half...as you keep laughing every other second......while the second half is quite serious as the Villain is revealed......overall.....the story is GOOD vs EVIL and Good prevails in the end type....but nevertheless, it's entertaining.
It's an out an out entertainer, nothing of the sort can be seen in Bollywood, it's pure Kollywood style....with a Hollywood touch.......South Indian Sambhar in Western sausage!
MY VERDICT - It's an ultimate entertainer....****1/5
